Cyclone Separators
What are cyclone separators?
Cyclone separators are devices for air dust removal that are based on the principle of centrifugal force. They find their ideal application in situations where the air is contaminated by very coarse particles, or where the concentration of particles is very high; their primary placement is therefore as pre-filtration devices.
Why are cyclone separators used?
Cyclone separators allow the extraction of dust and contaminating particles from an air flow by circulating it at high speed in spiral structures.
Despite their very high efficiency on large granulometries, it drops drastically in the presence of very fine particles:
keeping this limitation in mind, however, there are several advantages that may encourage the use – more often, as mentioned, as a pre-filtration function – of a cyclone separator

Simplified maintenance:
In cyclone separators there are no moving or replaceable parts, which drastically reduces maintenance requirements.

Ease of dust recovery:
Once separated from the air flow by centrifugal force, the dust falls by gravity and can be easily recovered and reused, where possible.

Possibility of working on humid fumes:
In the absence of filter surfaces subject to clogging, it is possible to purify even air contaminated by humid fumes, which would damage bag or cartridge filters by saturating them too quickly.

Protection of the subsequent filter:
Prefiltration using a cyclone separator removes all heavy, coarse and potentially abrasive particulates from the air flow that could easily damage a more efficient filter, such as bag or cartridge filters (link to respective pages), downstream.
The reference standard for activated carbon filters is based on BAT (Best Available Technologies), which are the basis for the tables of the Italian Regions.
