What are activated carbon filters

Activated carbon filters are devices of air purification and deodorization from solvents and volatile organic compounds. Their operation is based on the adsorption phenomenon exhibited by activated carbon; the latter, in fact, presents a level of microporosity that extends to 1500 m2 the surface area of a mass of one gram of carbon. This surface is arranged in micropores of ever smaller diameter in which the VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) disperse, and such a structure therefore allows an excellent level of air purification and deodorization. The activated carbon filter is particularly valuable in solvent recovery applications.

Why are activated carbon filters used?

As we have said, industrial activated carbon filters prove ideal in the fields of oil removal and air deodorization, to purify it from solvents and VOCs. Their constructional characteristics essentially present three advantages:

installation flexibility:

the structural simplicity of activated carbon filters makes it very easy to install them in any application situation without difficulty.
simplicity of maintenance:

the maintenance operations of industrial activated carbon filters are very simple, and do not involve complications or particular costs.
Filter material replacement speed:

Activated carbons, once exhausted, can be disposed of or regenerated. In both cases, their extraction and replacement is simple and fast.

The reference standard for activated carbon filters is based on BAT (Best Available Technologies), which are the basis for the tables of the Italian Regions.

Application areas of activated carbon filtration

Industrial activated carbon filters, as mentioned above, are used in a vast variety of different industrial and production areas.

Activated carbon filters are almost always coupled with a filter that can be a sleeves , a cartridges , a pockets or scrubber , to be positioned upstream, to prevent even small amounts of dust from prematurely exhausting the adsorption capacity of the activated carbon.
